Beloved Business and Community Leader Dies

Bruce Nordstrom passed away this morning. My heart is heavy. My mind is full of thoughts and memories.

In my hands I hold his book, “Leave It Better Than You Found It.”

I treasure it, and his personal inscription to me inside the cover.

Mr. Bruce, as he was lovingly called by those affiliated with Nordstrom, the company founded by his grandfather, was an elegant, stately figure. He was a keen thinker, sharp, decisive, witty, funny, quick, kind. He so loved his family – his devoted  wife Jeannie, his sons Erik and Pete, and his  late son Blake, and their families.

He was a good friend. I loved him.

I love Nordstrom. Period.

I will never forget you, Bruce. Or that twinkle in your eyes.

And I will go to the store tomorrow and picture you walking the floor, as you often did.

This is my note going up to the Universe – special delivery to you.

Meet the Author

I’m a viewer. An observer. A storyteller. A broadcaster. A writer. A regional “influencer,” they tell me.

Just call me “Positively Patti Payne,” a mom, a business woman, a longtime award-winning broadcaster, emcee, keynote speaker, commercial voice, columnist, consultant.

I am principal of my own public affairs/community relations business, The Payne Group: Communicating and Connecting.

I’m a zealot about animals, baking, culinary creating, gardening, quiet time, laughing, and life!

I was a professional musician who played drums and sang nightly on club stages in a jazz combo when my two daughters were growing up; and later in a jazz combo headed by Seattle Mariners chairman emeritus John Ellis.
